What is Fixed Radio Service

Fixed Radio Service (FRS) refers to a radiocommunication service between specified fixed points, often using terrestrial microwave radio systems for point-to-point or point-to-multipoint configurations, used to transmit high volumes of data or lower capacity links.

Fixed link radio utilizes a wide range of frequencies, primarily above 1 GHz, with bands between 1 and 60 GHz being commonly used for point-to-point links, including those in the 10, 28, 32, and 40 GHz blocks.

Fixed link radio offers benefits like rapid deployment, high bandwidth, and reliability, making it a valuable option for various applications, including connecting remote areas and providing redundant networks.

Yes, there are restrictions on Fixed Link radio usage in Jamaica, requiring licensing for radio equipment and adherence to specific technical and operational rules, managed by the Spectrum Management Authority (SMA).
